Type of Scholarships 
  • Type 1: Pays all tuiton at any school and provides $900 per year for textbooks. This is a four year scholarship.
  • Type 2: Pays tuition at any school up to $18,000 per year and provides $600 per year for textbooks. This can be a three or four year scholarship.
  • Type 7: Pays tuition of an in-state public institution and provides $600 per year for textbook. This is a four year scholarship or can be converted to a three year Type 2 scholarship if needed. 
  • All scholarship recipients receive a monthly stipend during the academic year. Freshman: $300; Sophomore: $350; Junior: $450; Senior: $500
  • Scholarship recipients must be a U.S. Citizen to be eligible to receive a scholarship and cannot hold dual citizenship. 

High School Scholarship Program
  • Scholarship program available for junior/senior highschool students. 
  • Application opens on June 1 (Junior to Senior Summer) and closes December 1 (Fall Senior Year). 
  • All majors are eligible for scholarship however priority is given to students pursuing technical or foreign language degrees. More information can be found at this page.
  • Scholarship recipients are given one academic year to decide if the Air Force is something they want to do. At the end of that year, they are committed to serving 4 years active duty and 4 years reserves.

Scholarship Opportunities for Current College Students
  • During your freshman and sophomore years of the program, there are two opportunities to receive a scholarship: Commanders and In-College
  • The Commander's scholarship is handed out by the Commander of the detachment to a cadet who is performing above and beyond what is required and standing out among his peers in both academics and ROTC. It is a Type 2 scholarship. 
  • The In-College Scholarship is a national competition.
    • They will be competed based on the following qualifications: 
      • GPA (College) 
      • Air Force Officer Qualifying Test (AFOQT) or SAT/ACT. The highest score is used. 
      • Personal Fitness Assessment (PFA) 
      • Commander's Ranking (Ranking against your peers in the detachment)
    • You must be nominated by one of the officers at the detachment for this scholarship. 
    • It is a Type 2 scholarship.

Language Scholarships 
  • Scholarships can also be offered to students studying a critical foreign language.

Specialty Scholarships (Express)
  • At times, the Air Force will offer scholarships to encourage interest in specific career fields.
  • These scholarships have the same requirements as the other scholarships however they also secure you into a specific career field post graduation. 
  • In the past,  Express scholarships have been offered for the Missilier and Combat Systems Officer.

Scholarships are not guaranteed because you are part of AFROTC.
