Brigadier General Thomas Parker Corwin

Brigadier General Thomas Parker Corwin graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration and commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve in 1935. In 1941 he was called to active duty and served in the Office of the Chief of Finance before he transferred to the Pacific Theater of Operations in 1943. Soon he was back in Washington practicing law privately until he was recalled to active duty in 1950 to assist in the organization and activation of the Air Force Accounting and Finance Center.

During the later half of his career, General Corwin held many important positions managing the Air Force’s finances including director of finance, deputy comptroller at Headquarters U.S. Air Force Base Europe in Germany, comptroller and chief of staff at Air Proving Ground Center at Eglin Air Force Base, comptroller at Headquarters Air Research and Development Command, and vice commander of the Air Force Systems Command. In 1962 he was awarded the first Oak Leaf Cluster to the Legion of Merit Award for his effective management of resources in the Systems Command’s nuclear and space programs. The same year, he was assigned as vice commander of the Air Force Accounting and Finance Center in Denver. The next year he was appointed to commander. In addition to his Legion of Merit Award, he received the Commendation Medal.
