You must be a full-time student at UMCP or one of the crosstown schools working towards your bachelor’s degree. For more information, please check out the high school student page or current college student page.

Yes, freshmen will join the class of freshman who joined in the fall. In the following fall, you will need to take an extra class to get the information you missed from fall freshman year. For sophomores through juniors, admissions are made on a case-by-case basis.

No, but please see the current college students page for details on your other options.

Each semester you will take a physical fitness test during the second half of the semester.

All cadets will have ARSC 059 – Leadership Lab, an ARSC Air Science class (or two), and physical training. Those attending UMD will attend two physical training sessions per week and our crosstown students will attend one per week. See a sample schedule with options for freshman students.

AFROTC cadets participate in a three-week training program during the summer after their Field Training Preparation year. This is our equivalent to boot camp. You will spend your first year or two in the AFROTC program preparing for Field Training. Field Training takes place at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama. While at Field Training, you will receive weapons familiarization, physical training, officer training, career orientation, survival training, and familiarization of organizations within an Air Force base.

Yes, please visit our scholarships page for more detailed information.

No, not to join AFROTC. If you are a high school scholarship recipient, you will have one year to try out the program and decide if it is something that you want to continue to do. After that one year, you will be under contract for four years active duty and four years reserves. If you are not a scholarship recipient, you will not be under contract until you return from Field Training. At that point, you would need to sign the contract for the Air Force for four years active duty and four years reserves.

Check your eligibility and if you are eligible, fill out our application form on our interest form to get started.
