How to Join AFROTC
Application Appointments for the Fall 2026 semester will occur throughout the summer. Please reach out to afrotcdet330@umd.edu for scheduling. The application deadline for Fall 2026 enrollment is August 12, 2026.
Thank you for your interest in joining Det. 330 AFROTC at The University of Maryland!
The following enrollment steps should be completed in this order:
- Complete the Google Interest Form on the Det. 330 Website
- Complete a WINGs account with all documents
- Complete the 2026 Det. 330 AFROTC Application Checklist Google Form
- Sign up for a mock PFA via Sign Up Genius
- Prepare to take a mock PFA (bring water bottle, Sports Physical DD28, and workout attire)
- After completing the mock PFA, take a QR code to sign up for NSO.
- Attend NSO and become an active cadet.
- Undergraduate Freshman with 4+ years until graduation
- Undergraduate Sophomore with 3+ years until graduation
- First Year Graduate student in a 3-year program (Two-Year Graduate programs do not qualify.)
- Enrolled in an accredited college that hosts or has a crosstown agreement with an Air Force ROTC detachment

- United States citizen or actively pursuing citizenship which can be obtained by commissioning date
- Be in good academic standing (2.0+ GPA)
- In good physical condition
- You do NOT have to have a passing physical fitness score to qualify, but you must receive medial approval to participate in physical activity.
- Of good moral character
- 14 years or older (must be 17 years old to receive a scholarship)
- Committed to attending Air science class(es) and Leadership Lab each semester until graduation
Note:
- Freshman are classified as AS100s and may start in the Fall or the Spring. If beginning in the Spring, AS100s must subsequently take the Fall terms of AS100 and AS200 simultaneously in the following Fall.
- Sophomores and Three-Year Graduate students are classified as AS250s and must begin in the Fall term. Unfortunately, neither can begin in the Spring. AS100 and AS200 courses must be taken simultaneously for the first Fall and Spring terms.
Enrollment Process
Step 1: Complete the Interest Form below to sign up for Application Appointment and New Student Orientation (NSO).
Step 2: Create ready-to-go WINGs account with all the appropriate documents uploaded.
It is mandatory to have created a WINGs account. Throughout your cadet career, you will be accessing this AFROTC application monthly for various requirements. Be sure to save your username and password.
Mandatory instructions to follow for our enrollment application process. Upload the following items via scan, print, label (PDF Label Example: Government ID_Name), and upload them as PDFs into WINGS under the correct document item name (do not upload images of documents and save them as PDFs):
- Government Photo ID (driver's license & passport)
- Birth Certificates/Naturalization
- Social Security Card
- DD214 (only for prior service members)
- Selective Service Number
- Transcripts (if you’ve received college credits)
- AFROTC Form 28 Sports Physical (see below for the attachment)--please complete the DD28 by a doctor asap.
Step 3: Complete the 2026 Det. 330 AFROTC Application Checklist Google Form
Once you’ve completed uploading the items above, verify and certify by completing:
Step 4-6: PFA
By completing the Application Checklist, you will then sign up through Sign Up Genius to register and take a required mock PFA test over the summer. All mock PFA tests will consist of a 2-mile run, sit-ups, and push-ups. All mock PFA tests will be held every Wednesday at 0800 from June 3 to August 5. You’re required to bring a physical copy of a Sports Physical DD28 to your mock PFA session. Failure to complete and register for a mock PFA will result in the discontinuation of your enrollment application. Please follow directions.
Step 7: Attend NSO
After completing your mock PFA, you will sign up to attend NSO (New Student Orientation) via QR code. NSO will be a 3-day event the week before classes begin in the Fall.
Det. 330’s location is at 4490 Rossborough Ln, College Park, MD 20742 (University of Maryland Armory Building). If you don't bring the required items or have them uploaded to WINGS, you will be unable to join AFROTC for the fall semester.
Parking at UMD:
Park at 'The Hotel' parking garage ($8/hr) across the street from the Armory Building, located here.
***If you park in the parking lot by the Armory Building, you will receive an $85/parking ticket.
