Lieutenant Colonel Walter A. Mitchell

Lieutenant Colonel Walter A. Mitchell is an Operations Officer and instructor for the Air Force Reserve Officer and Training Corps, Detachment 330 at the University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland. In this position, he is responsible for program guidance, oversight, and leadership development of Air Force cadets seeking to commission across a multitude of duties.

Lieutenant Colonel Mitchell was commissioned in 2009 as a graduate of the of Virginia Tech, via ROTC and the Corps of Cadets, and earned his aeronautical rating in 2010 at Randolph AFB, Texas. His was first stationed in Air Mobility Command (AMC) at 2nd Airlift Squadron, Pope Army Airfield. His follow-on was in Air Education and Training Command  (AETC) at the 451st Flying Training Squadron (FTS) and 479th Flying Training Group (FTG), Pensacola Naval Air Station  (NAS). Lieutenant Colonel Mitchell continued to Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) at the 1st Special Operations Squadron at Kadena Ab, Japan. Where he primarily served as the Interim Chief of Safety for 353rd Special Operations Group  (SOG) and the Deputy Director of Operations for the Special Operations Wing (SOW). Next he completed a three  year stint as the Assistant Director of Operations (ADO) for the 15th Special Operations Squadron, followed as the the Chief of Standards and Evaluations for the 8th Special Operations Squadron, The only unit that is effecting the newest  version of the MC-130J to be Initially Operational capable (IOC).
